Dave Sundberg’s life has been defined by a commitment to the rule of law and the protection of American communities. The son of an engineering professor and a local community leader, Dave was raised with a deep respect for community, hard work, and the dignity of public service.
Dave’s own journey of service began in the United States Air Force, where he developed his sense of purpose and took an oath to protect the Constitution. Seeking to continue serving his community on the front lines, he transitioned to local law enforcement and served as a detective with the Dover Police Department before joining the Federal Bureau of Investigation shortly after 9/11.
Over the course of a distinguished 23-year career, Dave rose through the ranks of the FBI, becoming one of the nation’s most respected tactical and operational leaders. He served as the Commander of the FBI’s elite Hostage Rescue Team (HRT), leading high-stakes missions to save lives in the most dangerous conditions.
Eventually, Dave was tapped to lead the Washington Field Office (WFO)—the FBI’s second-largest field office. Under his leadership, the WFO stood as a bulwark for justice, leading the massive investigation into the January 6th attack, resulting in the arrests of more than 1,500 people who assaulted our Capitol. His office also provided the vital intelligence and manpower for investigations into President Trump’s retention of classified documents and efforts to overturn the 2020 election, ensuring that no one—regardless of power or privilege—is above the law.
Dave’s career has always been about duty, not politics. However, following the 2025 presidential inauguration, the Trump administration forced Dave out of the FBI as part of a retaliatory purge targeting those who stood up against the weaponization of government agencies as tools of partisan politics.
Dave’s mission to protect the American people didn’t end with his departure from the Bureau. He is now stepping forward once again to serve, driven by the same oath he took decades ago: to defend the Constitution and protect the American people.
Dave lives in North Beach, Maryland with his wife. They have two children who were raised in the DMV area, where they still reside. In the face of unprecedented attacks on our institutions and democratic norms, Dave is ready to bring his decades of leadership and integrity to a new arena, fighting to ensure that the government remains accountable to the people it serves, not one man’s political agenda.
